Loraxing Danny Devito

I had the pleasure of working with Danny DeVito for a few months doing behind the scenes interviews and promotions for The Lorax movie in 2012. I did HD makeup for his on screen interviews, and makeup for the printed photographs of him in various magazines. Our biggest challenge was making a big yellow mustache to replicate the Lorax animated character. I made this using crepe wool hair and a lace piece. I had different versions and sizes for the production to choose from. We ended up using the biggest, most comical mustache and it looked great on camera!

I applied it and then covered the lace to blend into the skin. This entire process is covered in our Hair and Lace piece class. You can learn how to make everything from realistic facial hair, to hair for characters and monsters. You will also learn how to apply hair and lace pieces to blend into the skin and look very realistic. This process is something that is used frequently in the film and television industry.

We had the entire Lorax cast together for the final day of filming promos. You can see more pictures from behind the scenes on our “Instructor Work” section. It was a lot of hard work, and a lot of fun working with that talented cast.

I hope to see soon in one of my classes here at Hollywood Makeup Academy!
